The Aka_Tsuki wall lamp by Ingo Maurer is both a luminaire and an artistic lighting object, characterised by a charming interplay of light, colour and form. It was designed by Matthias Liedtke in 2003. Illuminated from an opal glass sphere, a red-pigmented bowl floats spatially in front of the wall. With its clear language of form, it brings a pleasantly calm decorative element to rooms of all kinds.
“Akatsuki” is the Japanese word for “dawn” and literally means “red moon”. In this sense, a red, round and slightly curved bowl is the central element of the design, which is illuminated by a separate light source that reflects its light into the room. The light source is located inside a small opal glass sphere that is attached to a small rod and seems to protrude from the wall. The bowl is separately attached above the ball and both elements seem to float freely in front of the wall.
With a sliding dimmer, the light intensity can be regulated continuously.

Matthias Liedtke is a designer and artist inspired by the authenticity of material, the structure and quality of different surfaces and the intensity of color and light. He uses the natural power of materials and creates unique objects as well as art with a broad variety of light, intense coloring and structured surfaces. His work surprises and sometimes irritates the beholder. He creates fascination for materials and their inherent qualities by creating multi-facetted forms and surfaces as well as contrasting interaction among them.
Ingo Maurer started to design exceptional lamps, lighting systems and objects beginning in the middle of the 1960s, which his company produces and distributes worldwide. This is why we can realize our ideas without compromises.
